COREu at GHGT-17
We are proud to have presented our study at the 17th International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Control Technologies (GHGT-17) in Calgary, Canada. Sabina Bigi from Sapienza University of Rome (Uniroma1) represented our team and shared this significant milestone within the COREu project, the largest Research and Innovation initiative in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) ever funded by a European programme.
Presentation Highlights:
🔹 Study Focus: The presentation detailed the site description and planned environmental monitoring of the Prinos CCS site in NE Greece. This site is a key part of COREu's efforts to demonstrate full-chain CCS technologies, including CO₂ injection into deep geological formations beneath the sea floor.
🔹 Environmental Monitoring: The study emphasizes the importance of establishing baseline biogeochemical and biological conditions through innovative techniques such as environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis. This approach helps ensure the safety and efficacy of CO₂ storage operations.
🔹 Collaborative Effort: The paper, authored by Stan E. Beaubien, Sabina Bigi, Andreas Georgakopoulos, Johanna Järnegren, Paschalia Kiomourtzi, Anastasia Kiratzi, Olga-Joan Ktenidou, Nikos Mihalopoulos, and Ingebrigt Uglem, showcases the collaborative spirit of this initiative. Contributors come from various esteemed institutions: • Sapienza University of Rome • Aristotle University of Thessaloniki • Norwegian Institute for Nature Research • Energean Oil & Gas S.A. • National Observatory of Athens
This event was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the COREu project on an international stage, highlighting our innovative approaches and significant progress in CCS technologies. It allowed us to connect with global experts, share our findings, and reinforce our commitment to combating climate change.

We are proud of the contributions made by our partners and look forward to the continued success and impact of the COREu project. Together, we are making significant strides in the fight against climate change!
