Tiny bubbles can change how CO2 flows during transportation
Tiny bubbles might not seem important, but a new study shows they can significantly affect how pressurised liquids behave. Especially when the pressure drops. For CO₂ transport systems, this means rethinking how we predict flow and phase changes during leaks or valve operations.

COREu innovations for CO₂ transport and storage hubs
Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a critical building block for industrial decarbonisation in Europe. One of the key challenges in scaling CCS is the development of flexible, reliable and cost-efficient transport solutions that can connect diverse emitters to geological storage sites. Within the COREu project, two major technological innovations are being demonstrated that directly address this challenge.

Bellona Europa launches stakeholder survey on the future EU CO₂ market
On 29 July 2025, Bellona Europa launched a stakeholder survey to gather views on the design of the upcoming EU proposal on CO₂ market and infrastructure. The survey seeks to capture insights from across the CO₂ value chain, including industrial emitters as well as prospective transport and storage operators.

Research scientist for a summer in COREu: Safe design of CO₂ pipelines
This summer, four students joined SINTEF Energy Research as summer scientists within the COREu project. One of them was Håkon Hegstad Sæternes, who worked on “Safe Design of CO₂ Pipelines” in work package 2 – Core Technologies.

Why Clean CO₂ Matters: The Role of Impurities in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS)
This article summarizes findings from a study published within the COREu project by our colleagues and project partners from CERTH and AUTH, highlighting the critical role of impurities in the carbon capture and storage (CCS) chain: from pilot capture plants to final sequestration.

COREu at TCCS-13: Advancing CO₂ Transport Safety
From June 16–19, several partners from the COREu project participated in the 13th Trondheim Conference on CO₂ Capture, Transport and Storage (TCCS-13), sharing results developed within the project.

Czechia and Carbon Capture: building the Backbone for a Low-Carbon Future
Czechia is taking concrete steps to make Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) part of its climate strategy. Through its NECP and the newly published CCUS Action Plan, the country is setting clear milestones and building a national CCS Platform. This assessment is part of Bellona Europa’s ongoing work in the COREu project, analysing how EU member states plan for climate-neutral industry.

Carbon Capture and Storage: how Greece is Planning for a Cleaner Future
Greece’s updated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) outlines an ambitious strategy to scale up CCS. This country-level analysis is part of a wider series by COREu partner BELLONA, examining how EU Member States plan to achieve climate neutrality.
