Tiny bubbles might not seem important, but a new study shows they can significantly affect how pressurised liquids behave. Especially when the pressure drops. For CO₂ transport systems, this means rethinking how we predict flow and phase changes during leaks or valve operations.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a critical building block for industrial decarbonisation in Europe. One of the key challenges in scaling CCS is the development of flexible, reliable and cost-efficient transport solutions that can connect diverse emitters to geological storage sites. Within the COREu project, two major technological innovations are being demonstrated that directly address this challenge.

On 29 July 2025, Bellona Europa launched a stakeholder survey to gather views on the design of the upcoming EU proposal on CO₂ market and infrastructure. The survey seeks to capture insights from across the CO₂ value chain, including industrial emitters as well as prospective transport and storage operators.

This summer, four students joined SINTEF Energy Research as summer scientists within the COREu project. One of them was Håkon Hegstad Sæternes, who worked on “Safe Design of CO₂ Pipelines” in work package 2 – Core Technologies.
